Our good value homemade food uses quality ingredients that are locally sourced where possible. Almost all the of menu is homemade in batches in our small kitchen either by Chef Rick or Sue. All of the meat we use is supplied by the Jolly Meat Butchers in Hadleigh and our fish is supplied fresh each Friday.
Similarly we brew our own real ales on-site (tours by arrangement). Real ale is dispensed by hand pump (beer engine) with two from the Kings Head and one other from a local independent brewer. We also keep a local lager from Calvors brewery, keg cider from Aspals and a local real cider usually from Burnards.
Please bear in mind that we are a friendly single room pub with six tables seating approx 30 people, there is a small kitchen with one cook and most dishes are freshly prepared. Please note that
advanced booking for groups of more than 6 people is essential. For groups of 7 to 10 people please pre-order from the Group Menu. For larger groups, as a guide, see the Large Group Menu and please also telephone Nigel or Sue on 01449 741 434.
We were last inspected by Babergh councils environmental health in April 2018 and awarded 5 Stars rating in the "Scores on the Doors" scheme - a simple system of scoring food business for
hygiene and legal compliance.
We are well known for tasty beer-battered fish & chips, our delicious pies, spicy currys and traditional Sunday roasts. Meals are cooked to order and available to eat-in (Main Menu) or take-away (Takeaway Menu). Nearly all dishes are homemade and can be child portioned.
On Sundays we cook a traditional roast dinner and offer a slightly reduced main menu. The Sunday roast is served with roast potatoes, parsnips, Yorkshire pudding, a selection of vegetables, cauliflower cheese & gravy. We alternate the following roasts: sirloin of local Red Poll Beef; shoulder of Suffolk Lamb; or shoulder of Suffolk Pork all priced at £10.50. We offer a Vegetarian Roast priced at £9.95 and child sized roasts as appropriate for the childs age/appetite.
During our Beer Festival (late May Bank Holiday weekend) and Bildeston village B Natural Music Festival (early September) we serve a Festival Menu from 12 till 10pm.
